How it all got started
Ridge Lightning started in late 2004. Rick, visiting for Christmas, brought along his new camera, and we decided to experiment with photographing lightning. After spending a few nights standing in dusty fields photographing storms many (many) kilometres away, we discovered we could indeed take photos of lightning, and it became a bit of a competition between all of us to see who could get the best shot.
One of the earliest pictures in our collection is Russell's "bathroom window shot", showing a huge bolt of lightning falling out of a purple sky.It takes off
In early 2006, following a spectacular electrical storm, a few of our better shots made the front page of the local newspaper. After arranging some framed prints for family and friends who requested them, we started making appearances at local events with our pictures. This included having our photographs displayed in the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club main staircase during the 2005 Lightning Ridge Opal Festival, which was awesome.
